Attend Orientation

Prior to the first week of classes, you will attend the mandatory weeklong new student orientation called Wildcat Welcome. The first week of classes and other important dates can be found on Northwestern’s academic calendar.

In addition to meeting your new classmates, you will familiarize yourself with the campus, meet with peer and academic advisors and register for Fall Quarter classes.

Additional activities:

  • Move-In Day, when students will be able to begin moving into their residence halls, occurs on the first day of Wildcat Welcome. In August, you will receive your housing assignment and Move-In Day logistics.
  • International Student Orientation is an additional program held just prior to Wildcat Welcome, designed for undergraduate international students, exchange students, and U.S. citizens who grew up overseas. It is required for all F-1 and J-1 visa holders.
  • Parent and Family Orientation will be held at the beginning of Wildcat Welcome; registration will open in May.

Learn more about Wildcat Welcome on the New Student and Family Programs website. New Family and Student Programs has also created a website, Purple Prep, that provides more resources for families as they prepare to transition to Northwestern.
