After Enrollment

In the months after you enroll, you'll be required to submit the following paperwork.

On-campus housing requirement

All first-year and second-year students are required to live on campus in a shared residential experience under Northwestern’s two-year residency requirement. Additionally, all transfer students are required to live on campus for their first year. Residential Services will contact you in the coming months with more information about housing. Beginning in early January and continuing through May, you may access the online housing contract, where you can specify housing and room/roommate preferences. Every attempt will be made to accommodate your requests. In early August you will receive your housing assignment via your Northwestern email account.

Health records

Northwestern needs to receive your health records by July 1. Please time your mailing accordingly!

First-year students

Official standardized test scores

If you included self-reported SAT or ACT scores as part of your application, you will need to submit official scores to match your highest self-reported section/composite scores by June 1. Your official standardized test scores are required in order for you to attend orientation, move into your residence hall and register for classes. You can check to see which standardized test scores we have received via the Applicant Status Portal.

Final transcript submission

Your high school must submit your official transcripts as soon as they become available, but no later than August 1. Your final high school transcript, complete with graduation date, is required in order for you to attend orientation, move into your residence hall and register for classes.

Your high school can submit your final transcript online through the Common Application website using its Final Report form or the Coalition Application website until July 1. Your high school can also mail it directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admission.

Deferred enrollment and undergraduate school changes

To request an enrollment deferral or change of admission from one school to another, use the relevant links on the Applicant Status Portal. Proposals for deferred enrollment are due by June 1 and school-change requests by July 1. Both require approval from the director of undergraduate admission. Enrollment deferrals are generally approved for one full year only.

Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate credits

More information on receiving credit for Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate scores, including submission guidelines, can be found on the website of the Office of the Registrar.

Admission withdrawal

If we do not receive your transcripts and, for students who included SAT or ACT scores in their application, official test scores by the start of classes—or if your high school academic performance falters seriously, as indicated in your final transcript—your admission offer may be withdrawn. Northwestern also reserves the right to take that action if it receives information that, in its judgment, reflects significantly on your character or your fitness for study or participation in the Northwestern community.

Transfer students

Final transcript submission

If you have not already done so, please arrange to have the final transcript from your current college sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admission as soon as possible, and no later than July 1. The transcript must include final grades for all completed and pending coursework you presented in your application.

Admission withdrawal

If we do not receive your final transcript and official test scores by the start of classes or if your academic performance falters seriously, as indicated in your final transcript, your offer of admission may be withdrawn. Northwestern also reserves the right to withdraw your admission offer if it receives information that, in its judgment, reflects negatively on your character or your fitness for study or participation in the Northwestern community.

Transfer your credits and get enrollment information

You must take the initiative to transfer your credits as well as contact your Northwestern school of study for important enrollment information.
